ONE YEAR AGO - SEPTEMBER 2011

As high as Barclays Center rises above Flatbush Avenue today, all construction ultimately starts down below street level - or in this case, sidewalk level.  One year ago in September, the sidewalk along Flatbush Avenue lay exposed.  Pictured above is what's involved in getting you to the arena, and making sure all the lights work, and everything else we will eventually take for granted once they close the sidewalk back up and finish off the pavement.  Part gas, electric and telecom, and part subway station transformation - even with the use of that CAT, I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface regarding work done here.  When completed, this will all be beneath our feet.  Directly above a lattice work of re-bar waiting to be encased in concrete, pedestrians will eventually walk the streets of Flatbush again.
