Brooklyn Cyclones: Muckdogs Lose To Jammers; Coney Island Nine Clinch Wild Card

From the desk of:   THE SURF AVENUE SLUGGERS

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:
Batavia Bows To Jamestown;
Brooklyn Clinches WILD CARD!

The Cyclones benefited from few breaks down the stretch.  But early Wednesday afternoon, the Cyclones enjoyed their biggest.

After getting rained out Tuesday evening, the Batavia Muckdogs still found themselves in the same boat, as Brooklyn got abused by Lowell in Coney Island.  The Cyclones magic number to clinch the Wild Card remained at one.  Today, in a season ending, make-up game double header, Batavia could ill afford to lose either game or risk elimination from the Wild Card.  A win by Brooklyn Wednesday evening would have garnered the same effect.

When Brooklyn steps on the field tonight at Steeplechase Grounds, they will do so as the 2012 Wild Card champs.  The Jamestown Jammers threw a 1-0 combined shutout over the Batavia Muckdogs today in game one.  All the Muckdogs could muster against Jamestown starting pitcher, Drew Steckenrider, were two hits in four innings, and one more hit against the Jammers bullpen.

Batavia put forth an amazing playoff push, at one point winning nine consecutive games over the last two weeks.  They climbed up from being more than seven games behind in the Wild Card standings, to make the last day of the season matter.
