Winter League Update - Almost Caribe Series Time.

The Final Four in PUERTO RICO is set.  When I made my first winter update from P.R. los Criolles de Caguas were mired in last place.  They played the hottest baseball down the stretch and finished in third place and earned themselves a playoff birth.  Lino Rivera basically put Caguas on his back and slugged them to wins in 14 of their last 23 games.

The final four are designated A Series and B Series. 4 out of 7 wins.
Los Lobos de Arecibo will play Los Indios de Mayaguez in the A Series.  The B Series has Los Gigantes de Carolina opposed by Los Criollos de Caguas.

BILL PULSIPHER is opening the series for Los Lobos.  Pat Kelly, should be a familiar name to you, is the manager of Arecibo.  Of course you know Carlos Delgado, and he'll be seeing action for Los Gigantes.

I just want to get some words behind these pictures for you.  At the conclusion of the season, the last team in the division which does not make the playoffs, those players are put into a draft for the other four teams to select from for the remainder of the playoffs and Caribbean series..  Juan Padilla, who pitched effectively this winter for PONCE, Los Leones, was the top pick to be had.  He was picked by Los Indios de Mayaguez.  Fernando Cabrera went to Los Lobos de Arecibo.

By the way, they've been suffering rain-outs in the initial games.

In MEXICO, The Final Four is now the Final Two.
Los Venados de Mazatlan won their series 4 games to 1 over Los Yaquis de Ciudad Obregon.
Los Naranjeros de Hermosillo defeated Los Tomateros de Culiacan.
Mazatlan will square off against Los Naranjeros for the PacificMexicanLeague Championship.

Vinny Castilla is still kicking it for the Naranjeros of Hermosillo!  There's many recognizable names in this league.
