Ducks Take Rubber Game at Staten Island Ballpark
Staten Island grabbed an early lead, but the Long Island Ducks seized the day to win the rubber game at the Richmond County baseball grounds.
The Ferry Hawks tallied single runs in the second and third innings but only one was earned. Long Island bunched together four runs in the top half of the fourth. Afterwhich, the score remained unchanged over the final five innings of play.
Making his seventh start, Staten Island's Nick Carell allowed four runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts in five innings for the loss. Four Ferry Hawk relievers joined in limiting the Ducks to four hits over four scoreless innings.
Duck starter Akeel Morris yielded two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts for the win, and Nick Goody pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts for his fourth save.
Third baseman Joe DeCarlo finished 2 for 4 with a walk, double, triple, run batted in, and run scored.
