From the desk: DEM BARNSTORMERS
On Thursday, July 9, 1908, the visiting Brooklyn Royal Giants roll to a commanding 17-1 victory over the local nine of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Brooklyn batters in quite the lopsided affair explode for 24 hits against three different twirlers. Pittsfield starter Chris Mahoney, and Curtin in relief, join together in allowing twelve runs on twelve hits in only the first three innings. Cy Ferry then surrenders five more runs on another twelve Brooklyn hits. Royal Giant right-hander Harry Buckner yields a lone run in the fifth, thus spoiling the shutout.
