From the desk: DEM BARNSTORMERS

On Sunday, July 20, 1913, the Brooklyn Royal Giants pull out a late-inning victory over the Long Island Citys at Recreation Park.

Brooklyn jumps out to a 3-0 lead in the third.  The score remains unchanged through the sixth.  Long Island City finally counters with a run in the seventh and two more in the top of the eighth to forge a three-all tie.  But the Royal Giants regain the lead in the bottom half of the frame for a 4-3 victory.

Right-hander Dizzy Dismukes holds Long Island City to three runs on ten hits (only one for extra bases), and no walks with seven strikeouts for the win.  Brooklyn, in turn, is limited to just four hits and four walks by Coakley, who strikes out eight in a losing effort.

Left fielder Charles Earle accounts for two of the Royal Giants' four hits, including a double and a run.  Third baseman Wesley Pryor and right fielder Walter Ball account for Brooklyn's other hits.
