Brooklyn Cyclones: Saturday Night Fog Out at Coney Island

From the desk of:  THE SURF AVENUE SLUGGERS

MOTHER NATURE SAYS FOG YOU
AND THE BEACH YOU CAME FROM

Tri-City Valley Cats
vs.
Brooklyn Cyclones
SUSPENDED GAME

Fog me?  Fog you ...

The Cyclones and Valley Cats duel through five scoreless innings before Mother Nature chases home everyone attending Saturday's game at MCU Park.  Brooklyn's all-star game bound Garrison Bryant yields just two hits and no walks with six strikeouts.  He faces 17 batters, throwing 68 pitches with 49 (72%) going for strikes.  Troy starter Juan Pablo Lopez surrenders three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.  Second baseman Luke Ritter accounts for two of Brooklyn's three hits.

Mother Nature shortly thereafter makes her appearance at Dutchess County, where the Staten Island Yankees were within three outs of defeating the Renegades before being delayed.  However by 11:30pm the game had been declared official.  And so for a change the Cyclones actually get a helping hand from their Richmond County neighbors.  Bout damn time, too.

Thus the Cyclones enter Sunday's action 3.5 games back of the Renegades with an opportunity for affecting two positive outcomes.  A little more help from Staten Island wouldn't hurt either.

Aberdeen proves the biggest beneficiary of Saturday's weather.  In defeating the Vermont Lake Monsters - something Brooklyn could not do - the Ironbirds close to within 2.5 games of first, and now lead the wild card race by a half-game over West Virginia.  The Cyclones trail by one full game.
