Brooklyn ~ Tom's Egg Cream; Delicious Since 1936

Tom's Restaurant
ESTABLISHED 1936

Today, I visited the corner of Washington Avenue and Sterling Place in Prospect Heights.

Billy, and the fine people at Tom's Restaurant make an Egg Cream that is..

THE BEST!

...Did I say The Best?  Yes I did.  Just look at it!  It's beautiful.
Remember what I always say, - Clear cups are the way to go.  But take a look at the top.  No place in my search for the Ultimate Egg Cream has topped mine off with whipped cream and a shake of cinnamon.  Let me tell ya..., underneath that plastic dome was five minutes of slurpin' splendor.  Get One!  Tell 'em TheBrooklynTrolleyBlogger sent ya.

A short walk away from the construction site where the Barclays Center is being prepared for Brooklyn's foray into Professional Basketball, Tom's Restaurant in Prospect Heights has been serving up the Borough's traditional elixir since the days when
Dem Bums still played at Ebbets Field.

It's simple.
If you're hungry and are in the neighborhood, you go to Tom's.
If you want to sit somewhere friendly and enjoy good food and conversation,
you go to Tom's.
If you want to go back to a more simpler time in Brooklyn's rich past,
you go to Tom's.

They don't recreate anything.
They ARE the black and white picture in some-one's old photo album.
They are the Good Ol' Days.  Best of all, they are right now and in color.
They ARE and always have been....Brooklyn.

EGG CREAMS ~ Get Thee to The Brooklyn Farmacy!!

Trolley Riderz, I'm pleased to announce,

Aaron
From
BROOKLYN FARMACY
& Soda Fountain

As The Newest Member of BTB's
"THE EGG CREAM SOCIETY"
I was recommended by a friend to go to the corner of
Henry Street and Sackett Street
and try out a new Egg Cream shop.

What I found was a great looking place that really captures the Old Brooklyn neighborhood feel.
Aaron opened up back in June of this year and I'm sorry I didn't find out about
BROOKLYN FARMACY
sooner because he really got it right.
Not only did he re-create a Brooklyn Classic with Soda Jerks and all,
 he whipped me up
one GREAT EGG CREAM!

It's rare when the last sip of an egg cream is just as deliciously consistent with the first.
The seltzer has a tendency to blend in towards the end losing it's effect,  if you're the type to nurse your Elixir slowly.  But today's Egg Cream stayed true through-out.  Sweet!

Do you see the three tiers off color?
That's not just well mixed; That's attention to detail.
That's ART!

Without a doubt, today's Egg Cream was
BROOKLYN AUTHENTIC!

It was also on-the-house!
So if you find yourself in Carroll Gardens or you just have a yen for
a good Egg Cream,
stop by and tell Aaron the BrooklynTrolleyBlogger sent ya.

An EGG CREAM in Park Slope

EGG CREAM OF THE DAY:

Today's cup of Brooklyn Elixir was purchased in Park Slope; 5th Avenue somewhere near 9th Street.

On the one hand, it was a very good Egg Cream; a tiny-bit on the smoother side than I prefer but still very tasteful.  There was a nice blast of chocolate at the bottom to work with. And don't forget, clear cups are the way to go.

On the other hand, they are not a part of
"The Egg Cream Society"
...as of yet.

Skepticism ruled their day.

Unfortunate.

Today's EGG CREAM

Today's EGG CREAM is from 13th Avenue in DYKER HEIGHTS,
Brooklyn

Learn something from today's shop.
Clear cups are the way to go!

Not only do the clear cups enhance presentation,
when I spotted a bit of un-mixed chocolate at the bottom,
I was able to aim right for it.
My first sip was a most pleasing blast of syrup and seltzer.
It hit the spot!

This was a good Cup-o-Breukelen!

EGG CREAM of the Day

This afternoon I was in Williamsburg.  I drove by a "cafe" on Metropolitan Avenue and jotted down their phone number.  A short time later I called with lunch on my mind.  I asked if they made Egg Creams.  The young lady taking my call did not know what an Egg Cream was.  She never even heard of an Egg Cream before; much less if her establishment made them.  Shaking my head knowing this had more to do with changing times and less to do with me wanting to say something snarky, I just thanked her and moved on with my life.

**sigh**

I have unyielding faith in our little town and I knew there was a good Egg Cream to be had nearby.  I just had to find it...

....and I did.

The Egg Cream Society

Transcendental;
Born of a by-gone era and passed down through generations
like a family heirloom ~
I speak, quite possibly, of something wholly foreign to anyone living outside the NYC limits,
and still then, there are the unlearned amongst us right here.
But to those who've lived, and know; or resided on the block between
Memory Lane and  Remember;
To those who cling on to the best in our lives; to those who wear our memories and future dreams on our chests like Cub Scout Badges or ribbons if you were a Brownie,
To those of us who proudly call the Borough of Kings home ~

A TOAST
TO MY DEAR FRIENDS

This picture watered the eyes of a Dreamy Doll this afternoon.
But this picture also gave her a snapshot of life as a member of
THE EGG CREAM SOCIETY;
as a denizen of Brooklyn.

The $2.18 elixir of goodness is always money well spent for my part,  but I think someone else
made a connection with memories that are priceless.

If there's something more you want from life sometimes it helps if you remember where you came from.  If you're in the neighborhood, take a time out from the 21st Century and spend some time in a place where it's still cool to look at pictures in black and white.

All Hail the EGG CREAM!
