On Sunday, September 5, 1915, Bushwick loses both ends of a doubleheader, the first against the Almendares Club of Havana, the second against the Ironsides of Newark, at Wallace's Ridgewood Park.
The Almendares Club of Havana are charter members of the original Cuban League established in 1878, two years after National League was formed. In 1881, they became the first Cuban team to host a baseball team from the United States.
Bushwick falls behind the Cuban professionals with haste. Facing Frank Egan, Almendares push across four runs in the first inning, and another in the top of the third before Bushwick responds with two. But Almendares starter Baro would yield no more. He limits Bushwick to a pair of runs on nine hits, three going for extra bases, and three walks for the win. Reedy, with two doubles, and Hall who tripled, account for five of Bushwick's nine hits; ten runners were left on base. Frank Egan yields ten runs on ten hits for the loss. Almendares led 7-2 after four, then scored three times in the sixth en route to a 10-2 final score.
Although slightly more competitive in game two, the outcome for Bushwick remains the same. This time they leave 14 runners on base. Three times they loaded the base and each time left them fully occupied. Pitching for Bushwick, Girard surrenders eight runs on twelve hits in the loss. His mound opponent essentially wins the game single-handed. Starting for Newark, Hughes allows five runs on eleven hits and seven walks, but deprives Bushwick of a decisive blow. At the plate, Hughes leads the Ironsides with three hits including a triple and home run.
