OTD 5/19/1924: Brooklyn Royal Giants Defeat Tonawanda All-Stars in Snowy Erie County

From the desk: DEM BARNSTORMERS

Erie County, N.Y. - On a frigid Monday, May 19, 1924, the Brooklyn Royal Giants defeat the Tonawanda All-Stars.  In between Eastern Colored League games, barnstorming Western New York, manager Eddie Douglass delegates mound responsibilities between three twirlers who limit Tonawanda to four runs on six hits.  Catcher John Cason completes the battery.  Right-hander Jesse Hubbard throws a scoreless first inning.  Next in, Smokey Joe Williams yields three runs in the second, then tosses a scoreless third.  Southpaw Willis "Jack" Flournoy tosses the final six innings, allowing just one run for the victory.  Brooklyn knocks their hosts off-kilter with a four-run outburst in the first.  First baseman Eddie Douglass himself wields four hits in five trips to the plate.  The only lake effect phenomena going on around here is a Brooklyn Royal Giants win.
