On Monday, May 4, 1908, the Brooklyn Royal Giants were defeated by St. Bonaventure College playing in their season-opening game at Olean, New York.
Starting for Brooklyn barnstormers is right-hander Harry Buckner with Phil Bradley completing the battery.
St. Bonaventure puts bat to ball for a run in the first inning, then erupts for five runs in the second. The collegiates post two more in the seventh and another pair in the eighth. All told, Harry Buckner yields eleven hits. However, Brooklyn is partly undone by six errors in the field. The Royal Giants post their first run in the fourth, then rally for five runs in the eighth to no avail. St. Bonaventure pitchers Hughes and McDonald join in limiting the Royal Giants to seven hits with just one misplay behind them.
