Bullpen Provides Little Relief; Late Inning Comeback Falls Short

The Cyclones had scored just one run over their last 16 innings against the Hot Rods before the seventh inning of Thursday night's game when they finally rallied for a pair.  They were already trailing by seven by that point.  But then Wilmer Reyes hit a bases-clearing double in the ninth inning, bringing the Cyclones within a run of Bowling Green.  Unfortunately, the late-inning thrill ended there; game over.  Brooklyn now trails the Hot Rods in the series two games to one.  Wilmer Reyes finished 3 for 5 with two doubles and five runs batted in.  Center fielder Matt Rudick was 2 for 3 with a walk, double, two runs scored, and a run batted in.  With seven strikeouts, the Cyclones four, five, and six hitters batted 0 for 16.  Right-hander Jose Chacin yielded two earned runs on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts over five innings pitched in a losing effort.  But in truth, it's the bullpen that failed to keep the Hot Rods in place.  Three relievers joined together in issuing six walks and allowing five earned runs over the final four innings.

Coney Island Evens Series With Fishkill Nine

After back-to-back games of ridiculously high double-digit strikeouts, then getting two-hit on Thursday, the Cyclones account for themselves quite well to even the series at two on Friday at Dutchess Stadium.

Designated hitter Rowdey Jordan was the big man on campus, going 3 for 4, with two doubles, two runs scored, and three runs batted in.  Catcher Matt O'Neill reached base on a triple and two walks and scored three times.  First baseman JT Schwartz and third sacker Nic Gaddis drove in one run.

Starter Jose Chacin escaped with a no-decision after allowing two unearned runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 3.2 innings pitched.  Right-hander Oscar Rojas was the bullpen hero, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over the game's final five innings for the win.

Hunter Parson Closes What Jose Chacin Starts; Cyclones Play With Lead Throughout

Staked to a 3-0 lead, right-hander Jose Chacin limits the Blue Claws to one run through the first five innings.  Jersey Shore finally catches up to Chacin with consecutive extra-base hits in the sixth resulting in two runs.  But it's too little too late for the Blue Claws, as Brooklyn rallies for another three runs back in the home fifth en route to a 7-5 victory.

Making his fourth start for Brooklyn, Jose Chacin faces 24 batters, throwing 91 pitches with 62 (68.1%) going for strikes.  Chacin allows three runs on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in earning his third win.  In relief of Chacin, Nolan Clenney yields a run on three hits over two innings, but Hunter Parsons tosses a scoreless ninth to close out the win and earn his second save.

Designated hitter Zack Ashford is the big man on campus, going 2 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in, and third baseman Jose Peroza also goes 2 for 4 with a double and one run batted in.  Catcher

Nic Gaddis, Raul Beracierta, and Luke Ritter also drive in runs for Brooklyn.

Brooklyn wielded double-digit hits, drew six walks, and fanned only six times, and regulars Francisco Alvarez and Cody Bohanek were given the night off.

It's Groundhog Day at Wappingers Falls

The Brooklyn Cyclones have now lost 66 games this season.  I've covered every single one.  So, I know, and dread going back and checking to see just how many times this season the Cyclones have been limited to four hits or less.  I've made it a point of contention throughout.

On Saturday, they escaped my rage by wielding their fifth hit in the ninth inning.

Thank you, Cody Bohanek.

Hudson Valley's Josh Maciejewski hurls a gem, allowing four hits and no walks with eleven strikeouts over seven innings pitched for the win.  Right-hander Freicer Perez yields one hit over two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Brooklyn manages to put only one runner into scoring position.  They draw no walks and strike out 13 times.  Catcher Francisco Alvarez, Wilmer Reyes, Luis Gonzalez, and Zack Ashford account for Brooklyn's four other hits, none for extra bases.

After two impressive starts, right-hander Jose Chacin suffers his first loss as a Cyclone.  He allows five runs on three hits, including two home runs in the third and three walks with eight strikeouts through five innings.  In relief of Chacin, Luis Montas yields a run over two innings pitched, and Evy Ruibal 

surrenders a home run in the eighth.

Francisco Alvarez and Ronny Mauricio Remain Neck and Neck in the Great Steeplechase Grounds Home Run Derby ... or are they?  

Batting in the first, Jaylen Palmer singles through the left side, and with two outs, Francisco Alvarez

homers over the left field wall, giving Brooklyn a prompt 2-0 lead.  

Starter Jose Chacin and the bullpen make it stand.  

Not yet done, Ronny Mauricio slams a three-run home run in the seventh, and Luis Gonzalez doubles home Luke Ritter in the eighth for a 6-1 final score.

Making his second start for Brooklyn, Jose Chacin allows five hits and two walks with four strikeouts through six scoreless innings for the win.  Through 11.2 innings with the Cyclones, he has allowed one run on seven hits and three walks with nine strikeouts. 

Right-hander Willy Taveras follows Chacin with two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.  However, Ronny Mauricio's throwing error in the ninth leads to a Wilmington run, spoiling the shutout.  Otherwise, Bryce Montes de Oca closes the game and secures Brooklyn's series win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Francisco Alvarez and Ronny Mauricio remain tied for the team lead with 18 home runs in the great Steeplechase grounds home run chase.  Alvarez has 245 at-bats in 74 games this season as a member of the Cyclones.  He also hit two home runs before his promotion from St. Lucie.  Ronny Mauricio now has 381 at-bats through 97 games (23 more games than Alvarez).  The numbers speak for themselves.

Cyclone Bullpen and the Surf Ave Sluggers Provide Jose Chacin All The Support Needed For His First Victory at Coney Island 

Making his first start for the Brooklyn Cyclones, Port St. Lucie Mets graduate Jose Chacin makes a fine first impression before the Coney Island crowd.  After hurling five scoreless innings, he yields a run in the sixth.  All told, Chacin allowed an earned run on just two hits and one walk with five strikeouts through 5.2 innings pitched.  

Enter Josh Hejka who closes out the sixth and throws a scoreless seventh.  Afterwhich, the bullpen hits a bump in the road when Evy Ruibal faces four batters, allows a hit, and walks two before smartly being removed in favor of big Bryce Montes de Oca who closes out the eighth, then hurls a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the victory and earn his sixth save.  Jose Chacin earns the win.

The Cyclones score four runs on seven hits and seven walks with only five strikeouts.  Aberdeen right-hander Connor Loeprich takes the loss.  Second baseman Luis Gonzalez is the big man on campus going 4 for 4 with a home run, his fifth.  Third baseman Jose Peroza and Ronny Mauricio also drive in runs for Brooklyn, and back in the second Luis Gonzalez doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

The Surf Avenue Sluggers now own a 4-2 advantage in the series with the finale slated for Sunday.
