Black and BlueShirts Shleppin' out of Buffalo

In this blog, I , theBrooklynTrolleyBlogger, in a post on April 3rd, regarding what must and what cannot happen in order for the Rangers to have a successful run into and through the playoffs, said among other things.....

Tonight, at the 14:41 mark of the 2nd period, after giving up his third goal, Torts pulled #30.
The game ended with Buffalo scoring five.

This may or may not qualify as one of those weird moments.  But if something weird should happen, don't say I didn't warn ya.

We need at least one point tomorrow night vs. Toronto at the Garden.  I'm going.  At current, I'm not real happy about having to dip in my pocket to buy into the tease.  Touch base with me after tomorrow night.

Rangers @ Florida Panthers 9:13 pm in-game

I was an unhappy camper about an hour and 20 minutes ago.  In a game they can't afford to loose to the Panthers, the Rangers went down early 1-0.  At current there's one minute - twelve to go in the third period.  The most recent goal to put the Rangers up 3-1 came on another Drury Moment....YEA! Just like the other night.

And as I speak, Gaborik just scored on an empty net.  Blueshirts 4, Florida 1.  All the Ranger's goals have come in the third period.  There is exactly one minute left now.  In a game they needed to have but were expected to win, they shook us early but steadied things from there.

They looked sluggish very early, but I must admit as the game progressed the Ranger intensity up-clicked right along with the clock.  Really!  The goal by Mark Staal off a rush was a big burst of energy the Blueshirts fed off from that point on.  That goal made it a 1-1 game and there was a better effort the rest of the night.  Clearly.  If only there wasn't that loud voice in my head yelling this is all just a tease.  It was another good night.  It's another good night erasing that deflating loss to Boston up in BeanTown after taking the pair from the NYI and NJD.

Tonight, the Rangers now control their own playoff destiny.  As of tonight, things are back in their hands.  There's a playoff spot for them to protect with play like the way they've been getting it done recently OR there's a spot to be lost by tapping into their inner Washington Generals on ice.  This year when they've been bad, they've looked horrible.  When they've won, it's been by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin.  Lately?  They've had good energy, crisp passing, spirited and effective defense and for the most part have cut down neutral zone brain freezes.  I've also noticed more movement after the pass and it's paid off in getting goals in bunches lately.  The Rangers are playing their best hockey of the season, Right Now.  I know it was Florida, but it was the Devils too.

The bottom line?  Rangers have their future in their own control after tonight's game and moving forward.  Let's see what they do with it.  Let's see if they can get that annoying voice in my head to shut up.  I'm still thinking tease.  But I've been around long enough to know better than to discount the improbable.  That's the Problem.  Tuesday night we're in Buffalo.  I'll deal with it then.

pssst....They had a real good fore-check going into the third period tonight.  They clogged it up between the blue lines and kept everything to the outside in the defensive zone.  The Broadway Blueshirts were TrueBlue tonight.  It was just a good workman's like effort tonight.  It was good to see.  I have 3 days to feel OK about things.

Be TrueBlue or Tune Out?

I know this is just a big tease.  In that really dark, negative way, I don't want the Rangers to make the playoffs because I can't take another year under Glen Sather.  Enough is enough with him already.  But I digress; back to the tease.

As a fan ya just can't help but get caught up in the moment where we still have an outside but improving chance at making the play-offs.  After tonight's drubbing of the Tampa Bay Bolts, the Rangers find themselves in 9th place and 2 points out of the 8th spot.

After some really miserable losses the BlueShirts mugged the Islanders at MSG, which I attended, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first period. 

The next night they played a rather courageous game against the Devils in Newark and pretty much stole 2 points.  One of those Drury moments we remember from days of yore happened just in time to tie the score with .16 seconds left in regulation.  You remember those moments don't you?  The Drury moment in Colorado, and the Drury moment in Buffalo...; ya know the Drury moment that just doesn't seem to happen here, Happened.  They hiccupped again after those two spirited victories and here we are tonight; two points out.

Do I think they'll go far in the play-offs should they make it?  Hell No!  Can they make the playoffs, surprise and get deep in the tournament?  I guess.  If Henrik is perfect, if Gaborik is a monster, if Avery is healthy and stays on the smarter side of insanity, if Redden doesn't suck, if Dubinsky and Callahan can kick things up a notch like NHL play-offs demand, if our newest kids like Del Zotto and Christensen, etc., can escape the true enormity of the playoffs because they are too young to grasp it and enabling them to play free of mind, if Prust can carry the load of protecting skaters in a Ranger jersey solo like he's been, and if Shelley chips in too, if Staal would just throw his body around a little more, if Rozsival doesn't turn the puck over every other time he touches it in the defensive zone, and Torts doesn't loose his mind and do weird things at weird times....,  I don't know.

But I'm TrueBlue.  I'm not going to tune out.  I'll risk the tease because rooting for my teams is all I know how to do.  So...C'Mon Boyz!  Finish your checks, push the puck to the outside in the defensive zone, get a good fore-check going, and what ever happened to effective cycling of the puck?  Win the battle of the boards!  And for Puck's sake, SHOOT!  Just put the puck on net and be there for a rebound.  Just put the damn thing on net!

BROOKLYN ACES 2008-2009 we hardly knew ya. BUT WE GOT THE AVIATORS NOW!!!

For what it's worth, I'm glad I at least checked it out.  Turned out to be kinda fun.  We hardly knew ya guys.  But it was a nice one and only year in the Hanger.  Minor League Hockey can make it here.  I'll go.  Farewell EPHL..Eastern Professional Hockey League.  You'll probably be forgotten, but ya gotta start somewhere.
