BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Brooks Invade Staten Island and Pound Yankees 12-5;  Force Deciding Game Three.


Veni; Vidi; Vici...;  OH!  Fugheddaboubit!


It's going to be HAVOC in the HARBOR.  Both teams have now lost a game at home.


The Seaside Sluggers travelled across the Verrazano Bridge Friday afternoon with bats in hand, and proceeded to smash-up any plans the Yankees had of sweeping Brooklyn in two games.   This series is now tied.   And The Battle of the Boroughs will culminate Saturday in a most appropriate, do-or-die, NYC showdown.


At stake tomorrow is a chance to play for the NYPL Championship; local bragging rights; and Borough Pride.  The season ending; playoff elimination; loser-go-home in shame; contest will be played at the Ballpark at St. George in Staten Island.


In Game One on Thursday, the Cyclones could only manage two hits off Yankee pitching.  In Game Two, the Cyclones found Yankee pitching very hittable as Brooklyn's bats lit-up the Staten Island scoreboard with sixteen hits and twelve runs scored.


Brooklyn's Brian Harrison; Richard Lucas; Charlie Thurber; and Cole Frenzel were more power than Staten Island could handle.  Midway through, a two-run home run by Charlie Thurber kept the Yankees at bay, and a late two-run home run by Richard Lucas put them away...for good.  The two combined to go 6 for 10; seven runs scored; 2 home runs; and four RBI.


Brian Harrison jolted the Yankees all afternoon; going 4 for 5 on the day; with two doubles and three RBI.  Cole Frenzel; who did not start in game one against a lefty; drove in two more of Brooklyn's twelve runs.


After two innings played, the Yankees led this game 2-1.  But once the Cyclones pulled ahead, they stayed ahead; then turned on the power.  However, Staten Island pounded out thirteen hits of their own.  And both teams were guilty of sloppy play totalling five errors between them.


On the hill, Brooklyn's bullpen literally saved the day.  Cyclone starter; Jeffery Walters; got roughed up.  In 4.2 innings of work, he allowed eight hits and got charged with five runs/four earned.  But Rafael Montero; Tyler Pill; and Jeremy Gould; combined to keep Staten Island scoreless over the final 4.2 innings.  Montero earned the Win.  Pill is credited with a Hold.

BKN Cyclones ~ Staten Island Takes Game One

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Boardwalk Bummer; Brooks Suffer a Letdown by the Seashore.

STATEN ISLAND YANKEES TAKE GAME ONE.
SERIES SHIFTS TO THE BALLPARK at SAINT GEORGE.


A run in the second inning and another in the eighth was all it took for Staten Island to dispatch Brooklyn in the long delayed Opening Game of the first round playoff series between the two McNamara Division foes.


Staten Island's starting pitcher; Matthew Tracey; silenced the Cyclones over his six innings pitched, and allowed them their only two hits of the night.  He walked one Cyclone and struck out four in earning tonight's playoff victory.  The bullpen took over in the seventh and kept the Cyclones quiet the rest of the way.  Yankee reliever, Branden Pinder pitched a two inning save and also struck out four Cyclones batters.


For his part, Cyclones' starter; Marcos Camarena; was stellar for Brooklyn.  But he was foiled by the one earned run he allowed Staten Island in the second inning.  Otherwise, he allowed six Yankee hits and struck out nine batters over his six innings Thursday night.  Reliever, Orlando Tovar got touched up in the eighth when Staten Island scored their second run.


Yankee third baseman; Chris Austin; went 2 for 4; with an RBI.  And catcher; Nick McCoy, drove in the other Staten Island run of the night.


But that's all the Baby Bombers needed tonight in the Ballpark at Coney Island.  Only Charlie Thurber and Brian Harrison managed hits for Brooklyn and thus they fell by a final score of 2-0; and go down in the series 0-1 as the playoffs now move to Staten Island for game two; and a third game if needed.


The Cyclones enjoyed the season head-to-head match-up against the Yankees this past regular season.  But now they are forced to tie the series in game two, and win game three in order to advance into the championship round if they are to have any hopes of winning the franchise's second title.

BKN Cyclones ~ Let's Play Two

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Bums Take Bite Out of Muckdogs.

The Cyclones and Batavia Muckdogs will take a second crack at playing a twin bill today out in Western New York.  They tried fitting in two games yesterday, but the weather was uncooperative for a second straight day.  They were also rained out Tuesday.


They did manage to get one game in on Wednesday.  And it was all Cyclones.  Brooklyn got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the second inning on a 2-RBI single by Ismael Tijerina, and a 2-RBI double by Javier Rodriguez.


Batavia got two back in the eighth inning.  Then the Cyclones busted out with another five runs in the top of the ninth.  After a Daniel Muno double, Javier Rodriguez singled him home.  Richard Lucas walked and Brian Harrison reached on an E-6 to load the bases.  Travis Taijeron then pummelled a pitch over the right field wall for a grand slam; his 8th home run of the season; to make the score 9-2 Cyclones.


Brooklyn starter, Marcos Camarena, was sweet over 5.2 innings pitched.  He allowed only four hits and no runs.  In his second win of the season, he walked only one batter while striking out six.  The rock-solid Brooklyn bullpen was a little flaky, but finished the job.

BKN Cyclones ~ Bullpen Is An Early Season Force

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Young Bums Making Sweet Music.


This is Class-A Short Season, so let's give today's pitching some perspective.  If Tuesday's starting pitcher had pitched all nine innings, his line would look like this:


9 ~ innings; complete game.
5 ~ hits.
0 ~ runs; shut out.
1 ~ walk.
6 ~ strikeouts.


That's the kind of night Cyclone pitchers had against the Aberdeen Iron Birds in the rubber game of a three game trip to Maryland.  Brooklyn won the series two games to one.  They improved their record to 8-4 and remain in second place behind Staten Island by 1.5 games.


Carlos Vasquez pitched the first five innings against Aberdeen.  He allowed them only two hits and struck out two.  It was his first victory of the season.


The Brooklyn bullpen has established itself as an early season force.  Coach Frankie-V has em all making sweet music together. 


Tuesday they took care of the remaining four innings after Vasquez left the game.  Orlando Tovar pitched the sixth inning with one hit against him and two strikeouts.  Then, Hunter Carnevale was summoned to play Fireman in the old sense of the word.  He protected the Cyclones' 1-0 lead in the seventh; eighth; and for two outs into the ninth.  He was stellar allowing only a hit; one walk; and striking out one.  T.J. Chism chose the bumpy road but got the last out and his 3rd save of the season.


Brooklyn's lone run of the game came in the second inning off a pair of doubles by Richard Lucas and Charles Thurber. The Cyclones were 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position but Thurber delivered the all-important two out hit/RBI.   Brandon Brown and Brian Harrison managed the only other two hits for the Cyclones.


The Kids will be in Coney Island tomorrow for the start of a home-and-home series with Hudson Valley.

BKN Cyclones ~ Use Long Ball To Avoid Sweep

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Surf Avenue Sluggers Use The Long Ball Against Hudson Valley Renegades.

Chris Hilliard added to his All-Time Cyclones' record by winning his twelfth game as a Brooklyn hurler.  Saturday's victory makes him 2-0 this the season.  He gave up seven hits, but only one run in 5.1 innings of work.  No walks and one strikeout were good enough to help the Cyclones avoid a sweep by the Hudson Valley Renegades.  The Cyclones staked Hilliard to a first inning 3-0 lead, which in the end, wound up being exactly how many they'd need to win.  Ismael Tijerina lead-off the game with a single.  Brandon Brown reached on an error.  The Javier Rodriguez doubled; driving in Tijerina.  Brian Harrison followed with a single to knock in both runners for a 3-0 lead.


In the home third, Brandon Brown doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Richard Lucas then drove him home with a single.  Brandon Brown also hit a solo home run in the fifth.  In the sixth, the Cyclones hit their second home run in two innings when Juan Torres yanked one to left.  The last Brooklyn tally came in the seventh inning when Brandon Brown bopped his second home run of the night, and the Cyclones' third in three innings, over the left field wall making the game 7-1 in Brooklyn's favor.


The final score was Brooklyn 7;  Hudson Valley 2.


The Staten Island Yankees won their game over the Aberdeen Iron Birds Saturday night and remain one half game ahead of the Brooklyn Cyclones in the McNamara Division standings.


The Cyclones are headed on the road to Aberdeen next.

BKN Cyclones ~ Sweep Aberdeen Iron Birds Under Boardwalk

BROOKLYN CYCLONES:  Surf Avenue Sluggers Win 4th In A Row.  Starting Pitcher; Eduardo Aldama; Wins His 1st Game In Impressive Fashion.


SWEEP SERIES vs. Aberdeen Iron Birds; 3 games.

What a difference a day makes.  Were it not for a ninth inning win in a low scoring game Tuesday night, the glaring stat of that game would have been going 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.  Tonight was a different story as they went 5 for 12 with runners in scoring position against the Iron Birds in the third game of this series.  Clutch two out hits were also the key to this game.


The Cyclones began their second pass through the starting rotation tonight.  Opening Day starter; Eduardo Aldama made his second start and kept Aberdeen hitless through the first three innings while his team-mates put four early runs on the board.


The Cyclones scored their first run on an errant throw by Iron Bird shortstop; Mychal Givens.  And Nelfi Zapata had an RBI single for a second Cyclones' run in the second inning.  In the third, the Cyclones scored another two runs.  Daniel Muno led off the inning with a double.  Charles Thurber was next and followed with another double, scoring Muno.  Thurber stole third, then scored on a yet another Cyclone double by Brian Harrison to make it a 4-0 game.


Eduardo Aldama stayed strong through five innings.  And Coach Donnelly sent him out for the sixth.  He struck out the last batter he faced before arriving at his allotted pitch count for the game.  Through his 5.2 innings of work, he allowed only one Aberdeen hit which came in the fifth inning.  Aldama walked three batters and struck out five.  He has a 1.86 ERA through his first two games.


Making his third appearance this season, Guillaume Leduc came in from the bullpen to relieve Aldama.  He managed the last out of the sixth, but Aberdeen roughed him up in the seventh inning.  He faced four batters and all four hit safely.  Throw in a wild pitch, and the game was now a 4-2 affair.  Hunter Carnevale was called in to protect the Cyclones' diminishing lead, and successfully negotiated the rest of the seventh inning without further damage.


The Cyclones picked up a very important insurance run in the bottom of the inning.  Muno, Thurber, and Brian Harrison combined again to string together three consecutive two out hits.  Daniel Muno scored Brooklyn's fifth run on Harrison's RBI.


In Carnevale's two innings of work, he gave up two hits; no runs; and struck out two.  It earned him his second game Hold.  T.J. Chism retired the side in order in the ninth inning to record his second Save.


The Brooklyn Cyclones improved their McNamara Division leading record to 5-1.  They are tied with the Pickney Division leading Auburn Doubledays for the League's best record.  The second place Staten Island Yankees trail Brooklyn by 1.5 games.


The Cyclones are taking a two game trip up the thruway to play the Hudson Valley Renegades before returning home on Saturday to finish that series.
