Generals Close Out 9-1 Season With Their Second Regular Season Victory Over Philadelphia Stars; Teams Will Meet Again Next Week

If the Generals are to be defeated, Philadelphia must attack them from the air.  New Jersey's secondary is their Achilles heel.

Case Cookus and the Stars showed the damage they can do and the trouble they will cause the Generals next week in the first round of playoffs.

Just before the half, on third and goal, Cookus connected on a three-yard touchdown.  In the third quarter, the Stars took the lead on a well-executed screen, Cookus to Chris Rowland.  Philadelphia then went on an eleven-play 89-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter to pull within three points of New Jersey.  Case Cookus finished the game 19/33 for 244 yards and two touchdowns.

The Generals' defense was called upon to preserve the victory.  With just over a minute left in the fourth, on second and five inside New Jersey territory, the Generals (S-Shamon Luani) picked off Cookus when they needed it most.

Philadelphia totaled 328 total yards but only 84 yards on the ground.  New Jersey gained 178 yards on the ground and 410 yards overall and possessed the ball for 35:05 minutes.

Make no mistake, Luis Perez is in complete control of his offense.  He finished 14/18 for 138 yards with three touchdown passes and no turnovers.  De'Andre Johnson was 8/12 for 112 yards and rushed four times for another 33 yards.

Trey Williams had a big game, rushing 11 times for 114 yards and a touchdown.  Darius Victor added 34 yards on seven carries.  All told, the Generals ran for 178 yards.

Alonzo Moore had seven receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and Darius Victor also caught a pass for a touchdown.

In week three, the Generals defeated the Stars by an eight-point margin.  On Saturday, the Generals won by three points.  This is to say, Philadelphia is closing the gap.  We also know beating a team three times in one season is difficult.

Onward to Canton, Ohio.
