Cubs Salvage Split; Grover Alexander Closes the Door on Robins
Chicago rallies for a late run to salvage a twin bill split at Ebbets Field. Starter Leon Cadore compromises his own cause with a throwing error in the seventh inning, thus putting the go ahead run on second. Sure enough, pinch hitter Turner Barber drives home Charlie Deal giving the Cubs a 4-3 lead, and ultimate margin of victory. When the Robins place the tying run on second in the bottom of the ninth, manager Fred Mitchell calls upon Grover Alexander, who slams the door shut on Brooklyn. Ivy Olson strikes out ending the game.
- RECORD: 61-46 (.570)
- First Place; 0.5 GA
Correction: I ended this series too soon. One more game left against the Cubs, and then! it's off to the Polo Grounds. Sorry!
