Brooklyn Robins vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

Third Place Pittsburgh Pirates Remind Brooklyn Robins of Long Season Ahead
Brooklyn's momentum comes to a grinding halt today at Pittsburgh. After trading runs in the first inning, Pirates novice Elmer Ponder throws up goose eggs over the next five frames Meanwhile, Rube Marquard walks the plank after yielding four earned runs on nine hits and no walks with three strikeouts in just 4.1 innings pitched. Brooklyn rallies for two runs in the seventh on consecutive triples from Zack Wheat and Hi Myers, and an Ed Konetchy grounder to the right side scoring Myers. But the Robins would score no more. Elmer Ponder keeps them at three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts for his second victory this season over Brooklyn. Clarence Mitchell allows two hits during 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of Marquard. The good news is the New York Giants defeat Cincinnati at Redland Field.
- RECORD: 52-36 (.590)
