Cyclones Take Third Straight From Blue Claws

Brooklyn pitching continued dominating the Blue Claws on Saturday at Coney Island. 

Making his sixth start and his twelfth appearance, right-hander Garrison Bryant allowed two runs on five hits (solo home runs in the first and sixth innings) and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings for his third win of the season.  

Afterwhich, the Cyclone bullpen continued its excellence during this series.  Right-hander Nolan Clenney yielded just one hit, and one walk with a strikeout over two innings pitched, and Grant Hartwig 

closed out the ninth with two strikeouts in a non-save situation.

With two outs and two runners in scoring position in the home first, right fielder Tanner Murphy singled to left field, delivering home two runs.  Then with no outs and the bases loaded in the fourth, shortstop 

Shervyen Newton singled home one run, and with two outs, Matt Rudick singled, driving home two.  Third baseman Jose Peroza doubled home Newton in the eighth to close the scoring.

Cyclones Usher in the Summer Season With a Late-Inning Thriller at Coney Island 

Facing right-hander Carson Seymore, Jersey Shore tallied twice in the first and pushed across another in the fourth.  Seymore was removed after allowing six hits, including a first-inning home run, and striking out four batters in four innings pitched.  Right-hander Daison Acosta entered in relief and pitched superbly, holding the Blue Claws scoreless on just one hit and one walk over the final five innings.

Still trailing 3-0 entering the home eighth, designated hitter Tanner Murphy led off with a home run, and Nic Gaddis doubled home JT Schwartz to bring the Cyclones within one.

After Daison Acosta retired the Blue Claws in order in the visitor's ninth, center fielder Jaylen Palmer 

lined a leadoff single to center, and catcher Matt O'Neill walked.  Both runners advanced on Tanner Murphy's long fly to right field.  The Blue Claws then made a pitching change bringing in southpaw J.P. Woodward, who promptly unleashed a wild pitch allowing Palmer to score the tying run.  Matt O'Neill advanced to third on the play and scored the winning run on Matt Rudick's fly to left field.

Making his fifth start for Brooklyn, Carson Seymore escaped with a no-decision.  Meanwhile, hard-luck Daison Acosta might have put forth his best effort this season.  He faced 17 batters while throwing 67 pitches, with 47 (70.1%) going for strikes.  Acosta entered the game with 34 hits allowed, a 7.0 W/9, and an unsightly 9.29 ERA through eleven appearances and 31.0 innings pitched, but this outing did well to turn that all around and earn his first win of the season.

Brooklyn Sweeps Saturday Twin Bill

Game one featured a fine pitching duel at Frawley Stadium between Brooklyn starter Nick Zwack and left-hander Mitchell Parker for Wilmington.  Zwack yielded no runs on four scattered hits, and no walks with three strikeouts through six innings.  He faced 21 batters and threw 82 pitches, with 53 (64.6%) going for strikes.  Parker completed seven innings, allowing three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Both pitchers exited the game to no decisions.  Cyclone right-hander Justin Courtney threw a scoreless bottom half of the seventh inning, and into extra innings, the teams went.  Facing Blue Rock right-hander Amos Willingham in the top of the eighth, phantom runner Shervyen Newton advanced to third base on Matt Rudick's leadoff base hit.  Left fielder Rowdey Jordan followed with a single to center knocking home the go-ahead run.  Justin Courtney then retired the Blue Rocks to earn the win.

In a make-up game from May 12, the Cyclones utilized the long ball in completing a Saturday twin bill sweep over the Blue Rocks.  Wilmington grabbed an early lead with a first-inning home run.  First baseman JT Schwartz knocked home the tying run in the third, and designated hitter Nic Gaddis 

followed with a two-run home run giving the Cyclones a 3-1 lead.  Right fielder Tanner Murphy 

homered in the fourth, giving Brooklyn a 4-1 margin of victory.  Brooklyn right-hander Garrison Bryant allowed one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts through six innings for the win.  Grant Hartwig pitched a scoreless seventh out of the pen with two strikeouts for his fifth save.

Cyclones Even Series With Hot Rods; Cam Opp Picks Up Three Inning Save

Bowling Green designated hitter Osleivis Basabe led off the game with a double to left field and scored on Diego Infante's base hit through the left side with one out.

But Brooklyn was quick to respond.  With one out and the bases loaded in the home half of the first, Jose Mena's double to left field gave Brooklyn a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.  They picked up an insurance run when Tanner Murphy doubled leading off the fifth, advanced to third, and scored on a wild pitch.

Starter Oscar Rojas and two relievers posted goose eggs over the game's final eight innings.  Rojas earned the win after allowing the lone run on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings pitched.  Right-hander Reyson Santos recorded an out to close out the sixth inning, and southpaw Cam Opp picked up the rare three-inning save.  The three together allowed seven hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.

Cyclones hitters drew six walks this game and batted 8 for 31 (.258) with six extra-base hits but were 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position and continued striking out (eleven) in double-digits.

Coney Island gets back over the .500 mark with a 10-9 record and evens the series with Bowling Green.

J.T. Ginn Twirls a Gem in Brooklyn Cyclones Series Opening Win Over Jersey Shore

J.T. Ginn Throws Seven Scoreless Innings; Tanner Murphy and Zack Ashford Take Care of the Rest

Making his ninth start for the Cyclones, right-hander J.T. Ginn is opposed by Noah Skirrow for Jersey Shore.  

After dueling through three scoreless innings, Brooklyn strikes for three runs in the fourth; with two outs and the bases loaded, right fielder Tanner Murphy doubles to left field, sending everybody home.

Then again, with two outs in the fifth, left fielder Zack Ashford triples home Wilmer Reyes and Francisco Alvarez for a 5-0- lead.

Meanwhile, J.T. Ginn twirls a gem.  He allows just two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings pitched.  He faces 24 batters while throwing 79 pitches, with a stellar (57) 72.1% going for strikes.  

In his third appearance for Brooklyn, right-hander Nolan Clenney checks all the boxes, a walk, single, wild pitch, fielder's choice, and a sacrifice fly resulting in two Jersey Shore runs.  Called upon to pitch the ninth, Hunter Parsons hits a batter and strikeouts out three to close out Brooklyn's series-opening win over the Blue Claws.  J.T. Ginn evens his record at 3-3 and gets his ERA back under four with a 3.42 mark through 47.1 innings pitched.

In support of Ginn, the Cyclones batted 3 for 7 with runners in scoring position while all five runs were driven home with two outs.  And wouldn't you know, Coney Island drew five walks and struck out only six times.  In turn, Cyclone pitchers strike out ten while giving up just two hits and issuing two walks.

Coney Island Nine Takes Third Straight From Hudson Valley Foes To Salvage Series Split

Playing in misty conditions at cloud-covered Coney Island, the Surf Avenue Sluggers stage a marvelous comeback supported by another exceptional performance by the Cyclones' bullpen.

Facing Brooklyn starter Luc Rennie in the third, the Renegades jump out to a 2-0 lead on designated hitter Everson Pereira's two-run home run.  In the bottom of the frame, Zach Ashford singles and would soon score on a wild pitch.

After surrendering back-to-back doubles to open the sixth, Luc Rennie is relieved by Bryce Montes de Oca, who ends Hudson Valley's threat.  However, an error by Brooklyn third baseman Jose Peroza in the seventh leads to an unearned run and a 4-2 Renegade lead.

After the seventh-inning stretch, center fielder Tanner Murphy strokes a leadoff double and scored on Jose Mena's base hit to right field, making it a 2-4 deficit.

First baseman Jeremy Vasquez pulls the Cyclones within one in the eighth with his sixth home run this season.  

Center fielder Antoine Duplantis leads off the home ninth with a single, advances to second, steals third, and scores on Ronny Mauricio's triple to center field tying the game at four.  Then with one out and Mauricio poised at third, designated hitter Francisco Alvarez's sacrifice fly to center field wins the game, as they say, in walk-off fashion.   

Hudson Valley reliever Derek Craft takes the loss.

The lone run against Bryce Montes de Oca was unearned; otherwise, the trio of Bryce, Brian Metoyer, and Colby Morris allow no earned runs on just one hit and one walk with six strikeouts over the final four innings pitched ... just brilliant, allowing the Dem Boardwalk Bums to hit their way back into the game.  Colby Morris earns a well-deserved win on behalf of the bullpen. 

After losing the first three games to Hudson Valley, Brooklyn regroups to seize the last three and salvage a series split.  Although, Hudson Valley still owns a commanding 16-8 advantage in the season series over Brooklyn.
