Dan Marion Hurls Seven-Hit Shutout; Brooklyn Salvages Series Finale

With a 3-0 blanking of the Kansas City Packers, the Brooklyn Tip Tops gain their last ever victory during their two-year membership in the rival Federal League.

Brooklyn opens the scoring against Kansas City starter Dan Adams with a run in the second and two more in the third for a 3-0 lead.  

Making his 24th start, Tip Top right-hander Dan Marion makes it stand, holding the Packers to seven hits (one for extra bases) and one walk over nine scoreless innings for the complete-game shutout victory.  Only two Packer's baserunners reached third and were left stranded.  The Tip Tops turn three double plays supporting Marion, who improved to 11-8 with a 3.21 ERA.

Shortstop Fred Smith connected on a two-run home run for Brooklyn.  Leadoff batter and right fielder George Anderson goes 2 for 4 with a double and scored on Smith's circuit.  Dan Marion helps himself with a single, a run batted in, and a run scored.

Lee Magee, relieved as manager after posting a 53-64-1 record through 118 games, was ejected in the sixth after persistently arguing over a foul ball.

Brooklyn salvages the finale at Kansas City but loses the series three games against two.

Happy Finneran and Al Tesch Lead Tip Tops in Slim Victory Over Terriers

Saturday's opening game features right-hander Dave Davenport twirling for St. Louis opposed by New Jersey native Happy Finneran for Brooklyn.  The Terriers wasted little time getting on the board.  Second baseman Bobby Vaughn walks and scores on center fielder Armando Marsans' base hit.  Afterwhich, Happy Finneran yields no more runs, just two more hits, and no walks over the final eight innings for the win.  Dave Davenport allows two runs in seven innings for the loss; Bob Groom yields one run in relief of Davenport.  Subbing for Ty Helfrich at second base, Tip Top switch-hitter Al Tesch goes 2 for 2 with a double and two runs batted in.  Third baseman Al Halt drives home Brooklyn's third run.  Shortstop Fred Smith leads the Tip Tops with three hits.

Jim Bluejacket Hurls Two-Hitter; Tip Tops Sweep Twin Bill

After a scoreless opening frame, a fielding error by Al Tesch in the second leads to a Terrier run.  It would be their last.  In yet another fine mound effort, Federal League original Jim Bluejacket, despite yielding eight walks, allows no earned runs on just two hits for the victory.  The Tip Tops knock St. Louis starter Doc Watson out of the box with four runs in the fourth and two more against Bob Groom before the inning is through.  Brooklyn then scores single runs in the sixth and seventh innings en route to an 8-1 win and twin bill sweep.  Al Halt, Fred Smith, and catcher Mike Simon drive home two runs apiece.  Left fielder Claude Cooper and first baseman Hap Myers each drive in one.
