Brooklyn Cyclones: BATTLE of the BOROUGHS  V.

The Cyclones are entering the NYPL playoffs for the eighth time in their eleven year history.  This will be their third tournament as the Wild Card Winner; (2006; 2009; 2011).  In finishing the season with forty-five victories, they tied the team's fifth best ever win total.  They won forty-five games in 2008 and 2009 also.  Fifty-two wins is the club's best.

Even though Brooklyn and Staten Island finished the regular season with the same amount wins, the Yankees won the numbers race last week and clinched the division.  Along with Brooklyn and Staten Island, the Auburn Doubledays; this season's Pickney Division winner; also finished the regular season with forty-five wins creating a three way tie for most team wins in the NYPL this season.

The Stedler Division winners; Vermont Lake Monsters; will play Auburn in the first round while Brooklyn and Staten Island face off in the latest post-season version of Battle of the Boroughs.

Back in 2001, in Brooklyn's first; last; and only Championship season; they defeated the Staten Island Yankees in the semi-final round.  Then again in 2007, Brooklyn defeated Staten Island in the semi-final round but went on to lose the championship round to Auburn.  Fresh off a regular season ending sweep of the Yankees this past weekend, the Cyclones will be looking to continue their post season success against their outer-borough rival.

The Staten Island Yankees are winners of five NYPL Championships; their most recent coming in 2009.  They sandwiched Brooklyn's 2001 championship with a pair in 2000 and 2002; and went on to win back-to-back-titles in 2005 and 2006.

After being named co-Champion in their inaugural season of 2001,  Brooklyn lost heart-breaking championship bids in 2003; 2007; and most recently, last season; 2010.

Game One will be played in Brooklyn.  Then they'll head over the Verrazano Bridge and play the next *two games (if needed) in Staten Island's Ballpark at St. George.

LET'S GO CYCLONES!
