On Saturday, July 11, 1925, in a contest between charter member clubs of the Eastern Colored League, the Brooklyn Royal Giants bow to Ed Bolden's Hilldale Club at Hilldale Park, Darby, Pennsylvania.
The contest pits left-hander Nip Winters for Hilldale opposed by Dick "Cannonball" Redding for Brooklyn. But this day, the 35-year old Redding is not at his best yielding six runs on 14 hits in a losing effort.
Hilldale promptly opens the scoring when catcher Biz Mackey singles home the first baseman George Carr. Mackey drives home his second run in the third and scores on a Judy Johnson triple. Left fielder Clint Thomas then drives home Judy Johnson giving Hilldale a 4-1 lead through the third. Not yet done, Hilldale scores what proves to be the game's decisive runs in the sixth.
Third baseman Johnson Hill drives home Brooklyn's first run in the top half of the fourth. Later, his two-run home run in the sixth reduces Brooklyn's deficit to one. The Royal Giants score once more in the seventh to no avail. Otherwise, Johnson Hill drives home three of Brooklyn's four runs. Brooklyn's Bob Scott, Charlie Smith, and Johnson Hill each post multiple hits.
Biz Mackey leads all batters with three hits. Meanwhile, second baseman Frank Warfield's double in the sixth makes all the difference.

Hilldale starter Nip Winters exits the game in the sixth. Right-hander Rube Curry relieves Nip Winters. Together, they limit the Royal Giants to four runs on nine hits.
