OTD 6/5/1930: Brooklyn Royal Giants Defeat Wilmington Chicks at Pennsey Field

From the desk: DEM BARNSTORMERS

On Thursday, June 5, 1930, the Brooklyn Royal Giants defeat the Susquehanna League champion Wilmington Chicks at Pennsey Field, Delaware.

Toeing the slab for Wilmington is a former major league pitcher for both the Philadelphia Phillies and Athletics, Stan "Lefty" Baumgartner.  He is opposed by Royal Giant southpaw, Neck Stanley.  In the third inning, Brooklyn bunches together six runs on five hits and a Wilmington error, then adds two more runs in the sixth.  The Chicks score their only two runs in the seventh on a pair of hits, including a home run by Slaughter the first baseman, and a Brooklyn error.  Otherwise, Stanley limits the Chicks to six hits and four walks with seven strikeouts for the win.  Lefty Baumgartner yields 14 hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a losing effort.  Center fielder Irvin Brooks leads the Royal Giants attack going 3 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored.  Catcher Willie Creek is 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, and right fielder Ted Page goes 3 for 4 with a triple.  Left fielder Namon Washington makes a trio of Royal Giants with three hits.
