Former Robin Tosses Three Hitter Over Brooklyn; Indians One Win Away From Title
A bewildered Uncle Robbie watches on as his former pupil Duster Mails turns away Robins batter after Robins batter. Now 25-years old and making only his tenth appearance all season, Mails tosses a gem back in the face of former team mate Sherry Smith whom puts forth another fine although unfortunate performance. Smith allows just one run on seven hits and one walk over eight innings. However, Mails is better, yielding no runs on just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts through nine innings full. Ivy Olson, Hi Myers and Ed Konetchy account for Brooklyn's only hits. With one out in the home sixth George Burns doubles home Tris Speaker who scores all the way from first for the game's only run. Ivy Olson doubles with one out in the eighth but is left stranded. Uncle Robbie started Jack Sheehan at third in place of Jimmy Johnston. The Robins have scored just two runs over the last three games at Cleveland. The Indians now own a commanding 4-2 series lead in this best of nine championship.
