Jeff Pfeffer Hurls Gem; Robins Climb Within Half Game of First Place
Brooklyn gets back in the win column with a 2-0 whitewashing of the Phillies. Meanwhile starter Jeff Pfeffer gets off his own personal schneid with a long sought victory after five straight losses. Pfeffer yields no runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts through nine. Bernie Neis singles leading off the Brooklyn third and soon scores on a throwing error by shortstop Dave Bancroft. Then with two outs in the eighth Hi Myers connects off Phillies starter Bert Gallia on his second home run of the season. He now owns the team lead with 19 runs batted in. The Robins are actually 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position but Pfeffer makes it a non issue which makes Wilbert Robinson a happy man. Brooklyn ties the series at one apiece and now trail the idle Reds by just one half game.
