When Jackie Robinson emerged from the dugout at Ebbets Field and assumed his position at first base on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 15, 1947, he once and for all ended major league baseball's insidious practice of excluding African-Americans from our National Pastime. Last year, the Brooklyn Historical Society opened the baseball season by commemorating the 70th anniversary of Robinson's first game as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers with an exhibit focusing on how his fight for racial justice extended beyond baseball. One year later, I respectfully present this limited look inside. But if you have yet to visit, the exhibit remains open through June. It is certainly a must see for any and every baseball fan, particularly for those whom lived it.
