NEW YORK METS: The Amazins have not played a game of this magnitude in 3,376 days.

Welcome to the culmination of a long rebuilding process.

The co-creators of this year's varying 40-man roster finally saw their labors pay off, with the Mets poised to earn the organization's 8th ever trip to the NLCS.

First, they must play Game 5.

This was a long process none the less.

The great purge began in 2011 and for two straight seasons the Mets finished in 4th place of the N.L. East.

They inched up to 3rd in 2013, then last season finished in 2nd place.  This season, they ascended to 90 victories, and captured Citi Field's first ever N.L. East flag.

What started with Omar Minaya's first draft back in 2005, was picked up by Sandy Alderson and continued through July 31st of this year.

After ownership authorized meaningful reinforcements, the Mets remained in first place since.

Continuance of their gratifying season-long efforts now hinge on the arm of last year's Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom.

He tied Tom Seaver's club mark with 13 post-season strikeouts in Game 1 at Dodgers Stadium, putting him in position to author Mets history with what fans hope will be another winning performance in tonight's decisive Game 5.

In going from ROY to road warrior, Jacob deGrom's right arm ultimately gets final say as to whether the Meta season continues, or ends at Chaves Ravine.

Of the Mets 5 young core pitchers (Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, and Jacob), he's the one we never saw coming.

By the final out of Game 5 against Los Angeles, he could very well become the one we'll never forget.

Tonight, Mets history beckons for deGrom; an Omar guy; Chavez Ravine his stage.
