An ace is, as an ace does.
Two were in action Friday night, performing roughly 50 miles apart from each other.
While Matt Harvey was out-dueling Max Scherzer in Citi Field, Ducks starting pitcher John Brownell was treating the Bethpage Ballpark crowd to a masterful performance during Long Island's home opener over the Sugar Land Skeeters. He faced 29 batters over 8 innings, allowed no runs on just 4 hits, walked 2 and fanned 5 batters for his second impressive victory of the season.
The Ducks wasted no time against Sugar Land starter Dan Meadows. Bryan Sabatella led off the bottom of the 1st with a double to right. He then stole third, and scored on Lew Ford's base hit to left.
In the home 3rd, Dan Lyons doubled home a pair of runs, and then scored on Bryan Sabatella's single and a a subsequent E-7, to make it a 4-0 game. Sabatella figured in the scoring again in the 7th, when he crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give the Ducks a 5-0 final.
Carmine Giardina pitched a scoreless 9th to complete the shutout.
Catcher Jose Morales, recently moved out of the clean-up slot, went 3 for 4 while batting 6th. Cody Puckett was the only Ducks hitter batting over .300, and it made sense to slot him 4th instead. He went 0 for 4 with a strikeout Friday night, and saw his average dip to a .286 mark. Go figure.....

The win improves the Ducks early record to 5-3, but they remain tied for 1st in the Liberty Division with the Camden Riversharks. Long Island will host Camden in a 4-game weekend series later this month.
