New York Mets: Frank Francisco's Outburst Is Better Than Apathy

From the desk of:   HEAD-BUTTING MR. MET

NEW YORK METS: Amazin's Reach Lowest Level Since 2009 Regular Season.  After Falling To Ten Games Below .500 Wednesday Evening, I Want To Break Something Too.

That poor medical supply chest never saw it coming.  Or whatever contraption Frank Francisco got hold of, and decided to go MMA on, is now broken, and its' contents dispersed like a Big Bang reenactment.  And why wouldn't the Mets' Closer be upset?  He's been terrible.  If you have any self-worth as a baseball fireman, you go around breaking things after consistently swinging doors wide open like a barn during a tornado instead of slamming them shut.  At least Francisco is upset.  It sure beats apathy.

On Wednesday night, Francisco offered one inning of work, threw thirteen pitches, surrendered three hits, and allowed two earned runs.  For the season, he owns a bloated 1.81 WHiP.  And in just 33.2 inning pitched, he has offered up more hits (47) than Motown Records.  His ERA is also now at 6.42 and rising like a hot air balloon.

Since the All-Star break, the Mets have won eleven games, and dropped a whopping twenty-six.  The Mets won their first four games of the season, and rode that throughout the first half.  To start the second half, the Mets promptly lost their first five games.  They temporarily stopped the slide with one win, then proceeded to lose their next six games again.  Not coincidentally, that roughly remains the difference in their season record, during this second half free-fall.  And it also ties into the Mets now dropping to a season high, ten games below the .500 mark.  The Mets have not been this far below the even mark since the 2009 regular season.

Come to think of it, I think I want something to break something too.
