...And now the New York Softies are going to the Eastern Conference Championship round.  That's right, the softest team Joe Thornton ever played will now take on the team Wayne Gretzky once characterized as a Mickey Mouse organization.  Please, someone send Joe a telegram.  I believe he can be found at home, in his living room, somewhere near or about the San Jose area.


Brad Richards immediately put the Rangers ahead 1-0 at 1:32 of Game Seven.  From then, all the way to the 9:17 mark of the third period, Henrik Lundqvist stopped every shot Washington took; twenty to that point.  Just prior to that, Michael Del Zotto gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead at the 9:55 mark.  But thirty-eight seconds later, Roman Hamerlik of the Capitals finally got one passed Henrik to make it a one goal game again.


The second period seemed destined for a Capital break through.  But the Liege of Blueshirt Nation near single-handed turned them away.   So there you go Media - there is your masterpiece.  Two goals was good enough because Henrik made it so.


And to all that nonsense levied against John Tortorella, I will continue your education.  Coach Torts made it his business to bring the number of Henrik Lundqvist's yearly starts down considerably this season.  And with the help of Marty Biron, the Rangers accomplished that.  Henrik started his least number of games in a season in over five years.  Coach Torts' aim was to have a fresher goalie come playoff time.  The King has responded in two playoff series stretched to seven games; to include one triple overtime win.  And he'll have to get between the pipes again Monday, while the Devils, and Marty Brodeur have been resting.


That also brings up how some also railed about the Rangers being pushed to a second consecutive Game Seven series, and as a result, being overly taxed.  Brian Boyle and Michael Del Zotto laughed off such notions.  Coach Torts would say after the game how valuable this experience would really be for the team.


A nemesis; a demon of sorts; the Washington Capitals have been exorcised from recent Rangers history.  Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers no longer bear the burden of getting eliminated by Washington.


They will now take on the Devils.
