LONG ISLAND DUCKS:  Friday Marks 13th Opening Day for the Long Island Ducks Baseball Club.

Friday evening marks the 13th Opening Day for the independent Long Island Ducks Baseball Club.  They will open up their home park with a three game series against their division rival, the Camden River Sharks.

After splitting a four game series with the Somerset Patriots to kick off the 2012 regular season in New Jersey, the Ducks waddled up the Long Island Sound towards Bridgeport for an encounter with the Bluefish.  The team from Harbor Yard wound up taking two of three games from Long Island to launch this season's Ferry Cup Series match-up.  As a result, the Ducks currently sit at the bottom of the Liberty Division with a 3-4 record.  There are few however, if any fans, who believe the Ducks will stay there long.  Maybe it's just a matter of finally playing at home before 2012 starts to feel like a season.  Let's hope so.

Brandon Sing has a beat on the league's power hitters with two home runs and seven RBI in twenty-nine at-bats.  His seven RBI lead the Ducks and ranks second in the league.

Ray Navarrete is enjoying the kind of start he wished he could have had last year, when he got off so poorly.  So far, the Long Island crowd favorite is nine for twenty-five, with five doubles.  Since I last posted, Ray Navarrete claimed another Ducks' club record last Sunday against Somerset.  Ray is now Long Island's all-time games played leader.  With 638 games played as a Duck to that point, Ray passed Justin Davies to become number one on the list.

After this series with Camden, the Ducks get a day off and will then host a rematch of last year's championship series against the Revolution.  And then it will be on to Sugar Land! - where the Ducks will get their first look at the Skeeters baseball club, and their splendid new park.
