BKN Aviators ~ Into the Last Weekend We Go

From the desk of:   THE SKATES OF FLATBUSH

BROOKLYN AVIATORS:  Flatbush Intent on Making This Difficult.

It's hard to get any kind, much less wide spread notoriety, at this level.  So, if anyone is listening or reading out there, Danbury's Peter Vetri is a damn good goalie.  Here in Brooklyn, we know this.  So, it is what it is. Wednesday night he did to us what he's done before.  In the course of winning his 20th game of the season, he sent the Kings County crowd home no more certain of their playoff chances than they were before the game.  And if only to make this upcoming decisive weekend more pressing, the Akwesasne Warriors defeated Danville 4-3 Wednesday to close the gap in the standings with Brooklyn.

Things were looking good for Brooklyn after the first period.  Chris Campanale scored a power play goal half way through the opening session.  The A's out-shot Danbury eighteen to seven in that first period, and wound up out-shooting Akwesasne forty-seven to twenty-eight for the game.  But Peter Vetri stopped forty-five of those shots for the win.  His club scored four straight goals in the second period and the rest is academic.  Chris Campanale scored his second goal of the game, this time unassisted, half way through the final period.  Then, only twenty seconds later, Danbury answered right back to make this a 5-2 game, and final.

Michael DiLorenzo made the start between the pipes again for Brooklyn with Josselin St. Pierre penciled in as the back-up unlike the past few games.  DiLorenzo faced twenty-eight shots and only managed to stop twenty-three for the loss.

The A's still remain in fourth place with 73 points in forty-seven games.  Fifth place Akwesasne has sixty-six points in forty-three games played.  Two games remain for Akwesasne against the second place 1000 Island Privateers.  The Warriors need to win out while Brooklyn needs to be very careful as their real lead over Akwesasne lies in a mere .006 difference in win percentages.  Flatbush has one more game against Danbury, then will finish with two against the first place New Jersey Outlaws.
