Caribbean Series of Baseball
* * * *
MEXICO is this year's Winter League Champion.
For our Neighbors to the South, it's their sixth Caribbean Series Title.
The Caribbean Series Finals are played using a 6 game round-robin format between the 4 participating members; Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela. The team finishing with the best record is declared Champion. This year's tournament was held in Puerto Rico. Last year, Venezuela hosted.
Mexico finished the tournament 4-2. Their 4th and final victory came early Monday. Puerto Rico would play that evening going into their game with D.R. sporting a 3-2 record. If Puerto Rico could win their game, it would have forced a one game playoff which would have been played yesterday against Mexico. My Uncle kept txt'ing me with updates, but alas there was no happy re-cap for Puerto Rico. An extra game was not necessary as the Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico (3-3) giving Mexico claim to the Caribbean Championship.
Congratulations Mexico!
